Forward Montana (FMT), a political organization activating young
progressives, and Forward Montana Foundation (FMF), a non-profit
dedicated to increasing civic engagement, both based in Missoula,
Montana, seek energetic interns for the fall of 2009. The positions are based in Missoula, MT and work with the whole staff.
Forward
Montana's work has gained national attention and accolades from news
outlets including the Associated Press and TheNation.com as well as
partner organizations such as Rock the Vote. In the past two years,
Forward Montana interns, volunteers, and staff registered over 4,500
Montanans to vote, helped launch a statewide healthcare reform
coalition, knocked over 10,000 doors, and protected the voting rights
of 6,000 Montana residents.
Interns will be responsible for:
- registering and re-registering Missoula voters before the city's municipal elections;
- organizing communications and field efforts to ensure voters are aware of the all vote-by-mail city elections;
- directing Forward Montana's award-winning Trick or Vote Halloween canvass;
- pulling together a sweet election night party and celebration; and
- developing and implementing other strategies to increase youth participation in democracy.
Internships
open to enrolled college students, high school students, and
non-students. Typical commitment is average of 10 hours per week for 3
university credits. Internships get sweet rewards like college credit,
job satisfaction, direct instruction in political organizing and
theory, and the occasional free burrito.
