According to conservative Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), the President's health care speech was a "game changer." But we still need to win the game. The far right has been spreading misinformation left and right. According to their talking points,, health care reform will kill Medicare, kill freedom, and even kill your grandparents.
But here's the reality: health reform isn't going to make you sicker. In fact, it is likely to make you healthier and wealthier. And we've never been closer to making it happen than we are today.
We need you! to write a letter to the editor to keep the momentum going so we can pass health reform:
1. Read Up on the Issue
The President's health care plan ends discrimination based on pre-existing conditions and caps out-of-pocket expenditures on health case. [The White House, 09/09/09]
Health Reform will not hurt Medicare or insert new bureaucracies between you and your doctor.
There aren't Death Panels, there isn't a government takeover, and
Medicare patients will see lower prescription drug costs, better
quality of care, and not cuts in service. [AARP, 2009]
Lower Costs, Better Care, Safeguards to Protect You.
Through the introduction of Insurance Exchange Marketplaces as well as
new competition through a public option alternative to private
insurance for small businesses and individuals, the President's plan
will lower costs for people facing the most prohibitive costs in health
care. Comparative medical research will improve the effectiveness of
treatment while lowering costs. And new regulations ensure that your
insurance company can't drop your coverage when you get sick. [American Progress Action Fund, 9/10/09]
