Sick and tired of hearing of hearing about your government being diverted by special interests? We've got the cure with "An Indecent Exposure of Big $$ in Politics." It's the return of our Naked Truth policy series and you won't want to miss the action!
At the Badlander, Missoula's coolest new bar, armed with Biga Pizza, some of the best food in town, we'll be joined by three of the country's leading experts on exposing and fighting political corruption.
- David Sirota is the New York Times bestselling author of Hostile Takeover: How Big Money & Corruption Conquered Our Government -- and How We Take It Back. In addition to literally writing the book on corporate influence in government, Sirota is the co-chair of the Progressive States Network, a 50-state organization dedicated to, among other things, fighting corruption in politics. Hostile Takeover is fresh out in paperback. Copies will be available for purchase (with a portion of the proceeds going to Forward Montana) and David will be signing books before and after the panel. Check him out in from Comedy Central's The Colbert Report.
- David Donnelly is the national campaign director for Public Campaign Action Fund and the director of Campaign Money Watch. Through his work, Donnelly has exposed the connections between politicians and big money interests, including the connections between big oil and Conrad Burns. In addition, Donnelly has been as responsible as anybody for the spread of "voter-owned elections" through public financing of campaigns -- a reform that has now taken hold in multiple states across the country.
- Rep. Diane Sands is a Montana native and the local driving force behind clean elections legislation. In addition to fighting corruption through support for voter-owned elections, Sands has led the fight for reforms -- like vote-by-mail elections -- that fight corruption by increasing public participation.
This event is co-sponsored by Biga Pizza, The Badlander, and Shakespeare & Co.
