Pink bunnies getting out the vote in Missoula

Look out Missoula there are some pink bunnies on the loose and they have just one goal in mind- to get you to re-register to vote.

Volunteers from Forward Montana have been hopping through town in pink bunny costumes in an effort to remind voters to update their registrations and they're also making a push through an ad campaign on youtube.

Everyone's airwaves: KBGA marks 11 years of programming

Mail ballots seem to lure city voters

Forward Montana chief executive officer Matt Singer said Missoula and the state have implemented good anti-fraud measures so his organization was able to get behind the idea of mail-in voting.

For example, the Post Office doesn't forward ballots if people move to a new address. Singer is in that boat -- without his election ballot until he shows up at the Elections Office in person.

Reclaiming God, guns, and gays

For decades Republicans have successfully used “God, guns and gays” as a three-point wedge to split the country into polarized camps. Their message: “Democ-rats are secularists who want to take your guns and ruin the sanctity of marriage.”

Now a local non-profit political group has a strategy for dulling that wedge with a new T-shirt that reads: “God, Guns & Gays: Love ’em all.” The shirt features criss-crossed rifles with a cross and a rainbow.

Go blue, young Westerners

Call it blowback from the Sagebrush Rebellion. The same region that took a turn for the hard right a generation ago is now trending blue. The secret in the story is said to be a lot of things - different, authentically Western Democrats, and maybe an influx of people from California - but it may be simpler than all that.

The descendants of the rebels themselves - today's Western youth - are leading the charge for a more Democratic West. If the trends continue, the Republican Party may find itself in a world of hurt.

The Millenial Generation, generally characterized as Americans born between 1978 and 2000, is the largest in American history. And as Millenials grow up and enter the voting booth, they are reworking the political landscape of the Mountain West.
